PITTSBURGH – The romance-drama Perks of Being a Wallflower will film in the Pittsburgh area.
Summit Entertainment is advertising with the Pittsburgh Film Office to fill crew positions for the movie, which will star Emma Watson from the Harry Potter series and 19-year-old Logan Lerman, who played the title character in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
Upper St. Clair native Stephen Chbosky will direct the Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is based on his same-named 1999 novel set in a Pittsburgh suburb earlier that decade. The story centers on a shy high school freshman, and explores topics including teenage sexuality and drug use.
You’ve probably already noticed but I figured I’d make a post just in case! The past couple of days, I’ve been adding lots of screencaptures from Logan’s movies to the gallery. So far I’ve added screencaptures from Gamer and (a personal favorite) Hoot. Enjoy the new additions!

We just heard last week that Selena Gomez is set to play Hannah in the upcoming film adaption of Thirteen Reasons Why, based on the novel by Jay Asher.
Chitter chatter around the web (via MTV) is that Logan Lerman’s name is floating around the character of Clay Jensen.
Thirteen Reasons Why centers on Clay, a high school student who comes home to find a box sitting on his doorstep. In it he discovers seven cassette tapes sent to him by his late crush, Hannah Baker, who recently committed suicide.
Rick Riordan’s The Sea of Monsters could be on the way, with Logan Lerman returning as the young demi-god.
It didn’t set the world on fire Harry Potter style, but it looks like there will be a sequel to Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
The LA Times have an inside source, sworn to secrecy, who blabbed that Fox 2000 are currently developing the next book in Rick Riordan’s series, The Sea of Monsters. Ed Wood and Agent Cody Banks writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are working on the script, which could film as early as this summer.
Star Logan Lerman, who plays young demi-god Percy, will return, as well as the other leads Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T Jackson and Jake Abel. The second book follows Percy and his group of friends as they head to the Sea of Monsters to find the mythical Golden Fleece and to free a friend who has been captured there. Riordan’s hugely popular books featured Poseidon’s son Percy from the age of 12, but the age was increased to 17 for the films. Last year’s film wasn’t a massive hit in the US, but grossed $137 million overseas.
Chris Columbus won’t return as director, but will remain as producer. No one else has been attached to the project, and The LA Times stress the project is still very much at the development phase.
Stephen Chbosky’s novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower has a pretty huge, devoted following, and last May, the novelist secured Logan Lerman (3:10 to Yuma, Percy Jackson & The Olympians) and Emma Watson (the Harry Potter series) to play the leads in a film adaptation that he would direct himself. Even with the talent attached, it appeared that he was unable to find a studio willing to finance the film. Now, Vulture is reporting that Summit Entertainment is in talks to make the adaptation happen.
Summit, the company responsible for the Twilight franchise and last year’s Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker, are apparently eager to have the film start production this June. It will be produced by John Malkovich and Vulture says an official announcement from Summit will probably be forthcoming in the week.
The novel plays out in a series of letters written by a high school freshman in 1991. Lerman would play the lead, Charlie, while Watson would play one of his only two friends, Sam. It’s worth noting that The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of the American Library Association’s top-ten most frequently banned books. The Harry Potter books, of course, top this list every year, so if this comes to pass, Watson will be the queen of the banned-book adaptations.
